What Are “Tweets”?

This website is based on a tool called Twitter. It allows you to type instant messages for the world to see. You are limitless about what you can say. But you’re limited by how many character you can type: 140. And there’s another word for the messages that you type on Twitter—they’re called “Tweets.”

Since you’re limited to 140 characters, Twitter users have developed a system for communicating shortly. You’ll notice 3 main symbols that are commonly used in most Tweets: the “at” sign (@), the hash tag (#), and the Re-Tweet sign (RT). If you’re directing your Tweet towards another user, or referencing another user, you can use this syntax: @TwitterUserName. If your Tweets are about a certain topic, you can use this syntax somewhere in your message: #Topic. And if you are forwarding a Tweet from another user, you always start with this syntax: RT @FromOtherUser. Here are some examples:

Basic Tweet: “Hello World!”

Tweets directed to someone: “@jholmes0001 Hello World!”

Re-Tweet (forwarding a Tweet from user “jholmes0001″): “RT @jholmes0001 Hello World!”

Tweets about a certain topic (topic: New to Twitter): “Hello World! #NewtoTwitter”

All three (forwarding a Tweet from user “jholmes0001″, which was originally directed to user “TwitterTeam”, and the topic is ‘New to Twitter’): “RT @jholmes0001: @TwitterTeam Hello World! #NewtoTwitter”

What Is Rap Tweets?

Now that you know the Twitter basics, I will tell you about Rap Tweets. Think of this site as a giant Re-Tweet—it captures all the Tweets (Twitter messages) that are created by Hip-Hop and R&B artists. These Tweets might include (safe) links to other websites they find interesting. You don’t need a Twitter account to read their Tweets! Although you’ll need one if you want to respond to their Tweets.

Navigation

There are several ways to Read, Find, and Navigate through the Tweets on this website:

1. You can Browse through all the Recent Tweets (which are updated every 15 minutes).
2. You can use Search to narrow what type of Tweets you’re looking for. There’s the Search Form at the top right corner of the website. Scroll down the sidebar a bit further, and you’ll find Quick Search—search all the Tweets according to the search-term link that you click on.
3. Scroll further down the sidebar, and you’ll see links can allow you to navigate by Artist, Month, or Year.

Other Pages

The Top Menu allows you to access other areas of the Rap Tweets website.

1. Clicking on Home will take you to the front page.
2. Videos is a show case of Hip-Hop and related videos.
3. Best Tweets is where you can view the most Provocative, Thought-Provoking, and Craziest Tweets that have appeared on this site.
4. Special Offers allows you to take advantage of deals from select retailers, usually related to music.
5. Blog is the official blog for Rap Tweets. Website updates, personal opinions, and anything unrelated to Artists will appear here.

Sharing

If you want to share any Tweets, click on the Share/Save button below each Tweet. You can choose which platform you want to share the Tweet (including Twitter if you want). You can also “Like” the website via Facebook by clicking on the LIKE button below.

Vote! (NEW)

Besides sharing your favorite Tweets, you can vote on which Tweets you like. Coming soon, the Most Popular Tweets will be featured on the front page. Next to each Tweet and Blog Post, you’ll see a set of stars. You can rate the Tweet/Post just by clicking on the stars. 1 Star means that it’s Poor, while 10 Stars equal Awesome. Afterwards, you can also Share/Save your favorite Tweet (read above).
